Cardiomyopathy Flashcards
What is cardiomyopathy?
a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of body
it is irreversible and progressive
what are the four categories of cardiomyopathy?
dilated
hypertrophic
restrictive
arrhythmogenic right ventricular
What is dilated cardiomyopathy?
structural abnormality that involves damage to myocardial muscle fibers
both ventricles are dilated
s/s of dilated cardiomyopathy?
fatigue
weakness
S3 or S4 sounds
dysrhythmias
palpitations
Lt and Rt HF
How do dx DCM?
echocardiography
ECG
chest x-ray
heart cath
What are nonsurgical txs for DCM?
diuretics
Beta blockers
vasodilators
cardiac glycosides
what are some invasive/surgical txs for DCM?
heart transplant
ICD
Bi-ventricular pacemaker
myomectomy
What is stenosis?
Narrowing of the valve
causing decreased preload and can lead to syncope upon exertion
What is regurgitation?
backflow of blood that can cause HF symptoms
what is the tx for stenosis?
TAVR
