2-70 years of age
less than 40 BMI
what would prevent someone from qualifying for a kidney transplant?
cardiac disease
active cancer
alcoholism
chronic infections
COPD
what are the two MAIN concerns with transplants?
infection and rejection
what is the preoperative care for kidney transplant?
prophylactic antibiotics
immunosuppressant therapy
monoclonal antibodies
what are the post op nursing actions for transplant?
hourly urine output more than 0.5ml/kg/hour
assess color of urine
notify for oliguria or diuresis
Daily UAs
signs of rejection
stool softeners
What is hyperacute rejection?
within 48 hours of surgery
fever, HTN, pain at site
calls for immediate removal
what is acute rejection?
1 week to 2 years after
oliguria, fever, anuria, HTN, azotemia, fluid retention
must increase dose of immunosuppressants
What is chronic rejection?
months to years
azotemia, F&E imbalances, fatigue
continues anti-rejection meds until dialysis is required
