Cardiology Flashcards
JONES criteria
Major: Joints (poly arthritis), carditis, Nodules, Erythema marginatum, Sydenham chorea
Minor: Arthralgia, prolonged PR interval, fever, elevated ESR/CRP
Needs 2 major or 1 major with 2 minor
5 characteristics of benign murmur
Systolic and relatively quiet
LLSB with radiation to ULSB or upper right
Low pitched
Vibratory
Decrease in intensity with supine to upright
Ductal dependent cardiac lesions
Hypoplastic left heart syndrome Coarctation of aorta (severe) Interrupted aortic arch Transposition of great vessels Ebstein malformation Tricuspid atresia Tetralogy of fallot (severe)
Pericarditis treatment
NSAIDs
Post viral onset, increased CP when supine, diffusely reduced voltages on EKG
Pericarditis
SBE prophylaxis rules
Incomplete repaired cyanosis heart disease (esp those with shunts and other hardware)
Heart disease surgically corrected with hardware within previous 6 months
Any residual defect near a prosthetic cardiac device
Infant without respiratory distress who present with cyanosis within hours of birth which fails to improve with 100% O2 likely has…
Transposition of great vessels
Needs prostaglandin E1 to keep PDA open
Happy blue baby
Infants without respiratory distress who present with severe cyanosis within hours of birth and fail to improve their arterial oxygen content with 100% oxygen therapy may have (3)
transposition of the great arteries
pulmonary atresia
Ebstein malformation
How many point difference between predictable and post ductal systolic BPs strongly suggests charcoal or interruption of aorta
10 point difference
Critical congenital heart disease aka require treatment in the neonatal period
Transposition of great vessels
Severe coarctation
Interruption of aortic arch
Hypoplastic left heart
All need patent PDA!
