Q

Tx of mitral stenosis

A

Preload reduction w Na restricted diet, diuretic(furosemide)
If afib then give digoxin and warfarin
If necessary then sx -> ballon vavuloplasty or valve replacement

Q

What is an acute cause of mitral regurg

A

Acute cause of mitral regurg is rupture of chordae tendinae likely seen post MO 2-5 days after- sudden rapid dyspnea so send for echo (confirm diagnosis ) and surgery immediately

12
Q

Treatment of mitral regurg

A

Surgery if post mi, diuretics

Non emergent chronic cases: after load reduction with nitrates(nitroglycerin) and or acr i for eg captopril

If afib then digoxin and warfarin
Surgery if left ventricular ejection fraction less than 60%

16
Q

Treatment of aortic stenosis

A

Tx: surgical therapy

Requires antibiotic prophylaxis!

17
Q

Main cause of aortic regurg

A

Main cause is long-standing htn

Frequent in patients with connective tissues disorders, patients with aortic dissection and trauma

18
Q

What kind of murmor is aortic regurg

A

Diastolic

19
Q

What kind of murmor is aortic regurg

A

Diastolic

Heard best at right sternal border

20
Q

Tx of aortic regurg

A

Tx is preload reduction- na restricted diet and diuretics ie furosemide
Also requires antibiotic prophylaxis !
