Cardio Histo and Embryology Flashcards
What is the Ductus Venousus? Regulates?
Shunt that bypasses the liver from the placenta to the heart.. Regulates blood pressure.
What is the Foramen Ovale?
Shunt between the left and right atrium, bypassing the pulmonary circuit.
What is the ductus arteriosus?
Shunts blood from pulmonary artery to aortic arch.
What is the Septum Primum, and what foramen is associated with it? How is it formed?
Septum Primum=Septum separating the atria. Forms first. Contains the foramen secundum, which forms by apoptosis.
What is the Septum Secundum, and what foramen is associated with it? How is it formed?
Septum Secundum: Separates atria, formed by looping, and leaves open the Foramen Ovale.
What is an atrial septal defect?
Excessive resorption of Septum primum, and septum secundum cant cover the hole.
What is a ventricular septal defect?
Ventricular septum does close all the way
What are the characteristics of cardiac muscle?
- Intercalated disks
- Striation
- Central Nuclei
- Involuntary
- Made from Mesoderm
- Rely on T-Tubule system
- Conducting cells
What is the epicardiam? What is it made up of
Visceral pericardium outer layer. Made up of Simple squamous epithelium, fibrocollagenous tissue.
What is the Myocardium and what is it made up of
Middle layer of cardiac myocytes. CT with adipose, vessels, and nerves.
What is the Endocardium and what is it made up of?
Inner lining of atria and ventricles. Simple Squamous epi. Specialized muscle fibers, blood vessels, nerves.
