Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
What is diastole
The stage where the heart muscles relax and fill up with blood
What is systole
The stage where the heart contracts and blood passes through the aorta / pulmonary artery.
What is the first stage of the diastole period
the atria and ventricles relax and the atrioventricular valves open ( tricuspid valve and the mital valve)
What is the second stage of the diastole period
Both atria fill with blood which then flows into the ventricles.
What is the last stage of the diastole period
The tricuspid and mital valve then close so there is no backflow of blood
What is the first stage of the systole period
The semilunar valve, and the aorta valve open allowing blood from the left ventricle to flow through the aorta and deoxygenated blood to flow from the right ventricle through the pulmonary artery.
