Carbon Flashcards
What is the half life of Carbon 11?
20.4 min
What are the energies for Carbon 11?
Positron = 960 keV and Gamma = 511keV
What is C11 brand name?
Choline
C11 Choline
PET tracer for imaging of patients with suspected prostate cancer recurrence and non-informative bone scintigraphy. It hleps identifies potential sites of prostate cancer recurrence for subsequent histologic confimation.
C11 Choline Clinical Pharmacology
Choline C 11 Injection is a radiolabeled analog of choline, a precursor molecule essential for the biosynthesis of cell membrane phospholipids. Choline is involved in synthesis of the structural components of cell membranes, as well as modulation of trans-membrane signaling. Increased phospholipid synthesis (i.e., increased uptake of choline) has been associated with cell proliferation.
C11 Choline Clinical Dose & Administration
10-20 mCi through a bolus IV injection.
What is the half life of Carbon 14?
5730 years
What are the energies of Carbon 14?
beta emission = 49 keV and 156 keV
What is the brand name for Carbon 14?
C14 H. Pylori
C14 H. Pylori Clinical Pharmacology
The urease enzyme is not present in mammalian cells, so the presence of urease in the stomach is evidence that bacteria are present. The presence of urease is not specific for H. pylori, but other bacteria are
not usually found in the stomach.
To detect H. pylori, urea labeled with 14C is swallowed by the patient. If gastric urease from H. pylori is present, urea is split to form CO2 and NH3 at the interface between the gastric epithelium and lumen and 14CO2 is absorbed into the blood and exhaled in the breath.
Following ingestion of the capsule by a patient with H. pylori, 14CO2 excretion in the breath
C14 H. Pylori Dose and Administration
a gelatin capsule that contain 1uCi of 14C labeled urea, which absorbed on sugar spheres and colored yellow with fluorescin.
