Need to treat both itch factor and the infection
* stop the itch/scratch cycle
* use of antihistamines, steriods, shampoos
Shampoos
- Benzoyl Peroxide - follicle flushing
- Chlorhexidine - antibacterial
- KetoChlor - antifungal and antibiotic

History of Patient
- Intact female
- 4-8 weeks post heat
Pyometra Clinical Signs
- Vaginal discharge (open)
- Lethargy
- Anorexia
- PU / PD (E.coli)
E. Coli in Pyometra
- E. Coli makes a toxin
- Toxic to kidneys
- Kidneys disfunctional
- Urine unable to be concentrated
- Urination more and therefore drink more
Pyometra Treatment
- Surgery is #1
- Medical treatment - flush out uterus (not guarenteed)
