What’s a carcinogen?
Chemicals and other agents that cause cancer
They cause cancer by damaging DNA
What is cancer?
When mutated cells spread and infect healthy cells, causing the growth of tumors
What are the two types of tumors?
Benign and malignant
What’s a benign tumour?
A tumour that grows slowly within a membrane
What’s a malignant tumour?
A tumour that grows quickly and invades neighbouring tissue.
How are secondary tumours formed?
Mutated cells break of and cause secondary tumours elsewhere in the body.
What’s it called when mutated cells break off?
Metastasis
