A

Benign-contained, slow growing

Malignant- invade, metastasize, grow quick

A

A type of neoplastic cell development and proliferation outside of normal. Tumours are when neoplasms occur.

What’s the difference Btwn radiation and chemotherapy? Any similarities?

A

Both sterilize cancerous cells so they can’t replicate. Both have harmful side effects to healthy tissue but radiation also causes burning of the skin which chemo does not. Chemo works via blood stream.

What’s a specific type of ulcer that can develop due to cancer? What consideration must you give?

A

Decubitus ulcers. Check for tissue inflamm over bony prominences. Alert a caregiver and do not work on site as it can breakdown skin.

How long should you wait to massage after a radiation treatment? After cancer surgery? After chemo? What are some special considerations?

A

After surgery- wait 10-14 days
After chemo/radiation tx- wait 2-3 days.
Permission from oncologist. No drag on tissue.
