Multi - cultural, containing people of different races, religions and more equal as position of women changed.
new laws to ensure people were treated fairly and equally.
Some activities that has been illegal were now decriminalised .
Timeline of new laws
1967 Abortions act = Decriminalised abortion in certain situations
1967 Sexual offences act = Decriminalised homosexuality for men over age of 21
1968 Race relations act = illegal to discriminate against those because of race or ethnicity
2005 Criminal justice act = Allowed severe sentencing for hate crimes
2006 Racial and religious hatred act = made spreading racial or religious hatred a crime
Race crimes
1968 Race relations act and 2006 racial and religious hatred act 2006 both made certain acts race crimes. Criminal justice act allowed more severe sentencing for hate crimes. E.G person assaulted because of race
Drug crimes
Since introduction of the misuse of drugs act 1971, taking or supplying substances has been illegal in the UK. Drugs classified according to how dangerous they are perceived to be. Some think drug taking is a personal choice.
Driving offences
Many driving crimes are totally new due to huge number of vehicles on todays road and technological advances of modern transport. For example :
- driving while under influence of drugs
- driving w/o insurance, MOT license or a valid driving license
- speeding and ignoring traffic lights, road signs
- driving while using phone
