A

Some modern crime seen as change but many are continuity such as
- theft - computers and modern transport created new ways to steal

Violent crimes = same, weapons used in them are new

New versions of old crimes such as drink driving ( driving a horse-drawn coach while drunk made illegals in 1872)

Is Cybercrime a new or old crime?

What is new about the crime?

A

Most cybercrimes are new versions of old crimes. For example, online theft, fraud or extortion.

What is new is the scale as 1000s of people can be targeted at once and perpetrators of cybercrime can be overseas which causes new problems for police.

How was smuggling viewed in the past?

A

Legal and illegal items without paying tax has happened for centuries.

In modern Britain, goods such as cigarettes, alcohol and illegal drugs are smuggled into the country.

There has been a growth in people - trafficking people into the country illegally and selling them for prostitution and forced labour in exchange of fees.

In the past, smuggling things like smuggling cigarettes were seen as lesser social crimes,

On 7th July 2005, Four suicide bombers claiming to be members of Al - Qaeda attacked central London. 3 bombs went off on underground trains and one on a bus. 52 people killed and 770 injured.

On Sep 11 9/11, suicide attackers seized US passenger jets and crashed them into two New York sky scrapers, killing thousands of people.
