Changes in policing - How is modern policing run ? and what is it about ?
modern policing about preventing and catching criminals . Police work with different forces and other agencies across UK and world wide.
1) motorised vehicle = police reach crimes faster, also means fewer police officers on streets ( some people dislike )
2) Some officers now armed and look more like solders which some don’t support
3) modern force include women and officers from diff ethnic groups
What has lead to special police units ?
changes in technology and challenges police face resulted in development of specialisation to tackle specific types of crimes. Some officers specialise in dealing with certain crimes such as rape
Examples of special police units
NCA : seek to detect, prevent serious organised crime, including large-scale drug trafficking.
Economic crime unit : investigates large - scale fraud ; officers require specialist understanding of financial systems
PCeU = tackles most serious types of cybercrimes and raises awareness on e safety .
Special branch : Each local force has a special branch which aims to prevent all forms of terrorism
What is neighbourhood watch and when was it introduced ?
Neighbourhood watch groups were introduced in 1982
use volunteers to help prevent and detect crimes in their neighbourhood
- idea was to increase vigilance and education to prevent crime as well as reduce fear of crime. It has met with varying degrees of success
