C/13. Aminoglycosides Flashcards
Aminoglycosides
MOA
Bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit and intefere with protein synthesis
(1) blocking formatio of the initiation complex
(2) inducing misreading of mRNA
(3) inhibiting translocation
Bactericidal effect
Exerting post-antibiotic effect(PAE)

Aerobic gram negative; E.coli, enterobactoer, klebsiella, proteus, proteus, pseudomonas, serratia)
Commonly used in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics
-enterococci (with penicillin)
-pseudomonas(with 3rd gen cephalosporin)
