C/13. Aminoglycosides Flashcards

1
Q

Aminoglycosides

MOA

A

Bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit and intefere with protein synthesis

(1) blocking formatio of the initiation complex
(2) inducing misreading of mRNA
(3) inhibiting translocation

Bactericidal effect
Exerting post-antibiotic effect(PAE)

Netilmicin

A

Aerobic gram negative; E.coli, enterobactoer, klebsiella, proteus, proteus, pseudomonas, serratia)
Commonly used in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics
-enterococci (with penicillin)
-pseudomonas(with 3rd gen cephalosporin)

Parenteral
Renal elimination
Dose reduction in renal impaiment

Resistant bacteria expressing acetyltransferase, inhibit drug
Alteration of ribosomal binding site
