C/10. Carbapenem. Monobactams. Beta-lactamase Inhibitors. Pharmacotherapy Of Respiratory Infections. Flashcards
Drugs need to know in this topic
Imipenem Meropenem Clavulanate Tazobactam Vaborbactam
2nd gen of Carbapenem
Imipenem
Meropenem
Broad spectrum
Effective against gram +,-, anaerobes, aerobes)
Serratia, enterobacter, psudomona, acinetobacter
Used in hospital-acquired infections, including pneumonia and sepsis
Parenteral administration
Imipenem is given with cilastatin, a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor, which inhibits imipenem’s metabolism to a nephrotoxic metabolite
Resistant to most beta-lactamases
MRSA strains are resistatnt to carbapenem
Carbapenemase potentially expressed by Klebsiella, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Enterobacter
Hypersensitivity reaction
GI symptoms
Skin rash
CNS symptoms
B-lactamase inhibitors
Clavulanate
Tazobactam
Vaborbactam
Prevent the destruction of B-latam antibiotics by B-lactamases and increase the spectrum of the antibiotic activity
Can be coadministered with B-lactamase-sensitive penicillins
