All over France inheritance laws must follow the Napoleonic code. Why is the fragmentation of vineyards so much more of an issue in Burgundy than elsewhere?
- Because of the nature of the vineyards – rather than owning a 4 ha parcel in one vineyard, most growers will have small pieces in a bunch of different vineyards, which are further divided on inheritance.
