What’s the causative agent for Brucellosis?
A
Brucella spp
- intracellular
- gram (-)
- cocobacillus

How is it transmitted?
A
- venereal
- orally
- bacteria is phagocytosed by macrophages and brough to lymph nodes

What are the clinical signs of brucellosis?
A
- infertility
- abortion
- puppies can be born bacteremia
- signs attributable to organ that’s affected –> painful testicles, swollen testicles, blood in semes, decreased/ anormal sperm, testicular atrophy
- vaginal discharge

How is brucellosis diagnosed?
A
Serology: rapid slide agglutination
PCR
- routine blood work usually unremarkable

Q
How is brucellosis treated?
A
Prolonged antibiotics, but nothing can 100% clear it. Re-emergence i possible under stress. Euthanasia
zoonotic and reportable in people
