How is it transmitted?

A
  • venereal
  • orally
  • bacteria is phagocytosed by macrophages and brough to lymph nodes

What are the clinical signs of brucellosis?

A
  • infertility
  • abortion
  • puppies can be born bacteremia
  • signs attributable to organ that’s affected –> painful testicles, swollen testicles, blood in semes, decreased/ anormal sperm, testicular atrophy
  • vaginal discharge

How is brucellosis diagnosed?

A

Serology: rapid slide agglutination
PCR
- routine blood work usually unremarkable

How is brucellosis treated?

A

Prolonged antibiotics, but nothing can 100% clear it. Re-emergence i possible under stress. Euthanasia

zoonotic and reportable in people
