Brachium Flashcards
Most proximal portion of the ulna that articualtes with the olecranon fossa of the humerus
Olecranon
Portion of the proximal ulna that articulates with the trochlea
Trochlear notch
Location on the ulna where the head of the radius articulates, and allow turning/rotation
Radial notch
Disc-like structure that sits in the radial notch of the ulna
Radius head
Ligaments that sit between the radius and ulna, stabilizing them together so they don’t dislocate
Quadrate ligament
Break in the radius, close to the wrist
Colles’ fracture
Type of ankle fracture that occurs when one of both of the malleoli, tibia, or fibula bones break
Pott’s fracture
Fracture of the humerus that involves an incomplete break
Greenstick fracture
Fracture of the humerus where the superior portion of the bone compresses and breaks the inferior portion of the bone. E.g. catching yourself when falling.
Impacted fracture
Fracture of the humerus that involves multiple fractures at the same time. Has a more lengthy recovery.
Comminuted fracture
Muscles in the anterior compartment of the brachium
Biceps brachii, Brachialis, and Coracobrachialis muscles
Divisions of the arm that separate the anterior and posterior groups
Humerus, medial and lateral intermuscular septae
Innervation of the anterior compartment muscles of the arm
Musculocutaneous nerve
Muscles of the posterior compartment of the arm
Triceps brachii muscle
Innervation of the posterior compartment of the arm
Radial nerve
Action of the muscles in the anterior compartment of the arm
Flexors
Action of the muscles of the posterior compartment of the arm
Extensors
Action of the biceps brachii muscle
Supinates forearm and when supine, flexes forearm. Short head resists dislocation of shoulder
Innervation of the biceps brachii muscle
Musculocutaneous nerve
Part of the biceps brachii muscle that runs through the intertubercular sulcus of the humerus
Long head
Number of joints that the biceps brachii is involved in
3
Contents of a third head of biceps brachii
Bicipital aponeurosis
Part of the biceps brachii that is more medial
Short head
Action of the brachialis muscle
Main flexor of the forearm in all positions (unaffected by pronation or supination)
Innervation of the brachialis muscle
Musculocutaneous and radial nerves (dual innervation)
Action of the coracobrachialis muscle
Contributes to flexion and adduction of arm, resists dislocation of the shoulder
Innervation of the coracobrachialis muscle
Musculocutaneous nerve
