Bovine-Stomatitis and esophagitis diseases Flashcards
Ulcerative/Erosive Stomatitis and Esophagitis DDX
Common 1. BVD 2. Malignant Catarrhal fever (MCF) 3. Papular stomatitis Less common 1. Bluetongue 2. IBR Differentials for vesicular and foreign dzs 1. Rinderpest 2. Food and Mouth Dz 3. Vesicular stomatitis
BVD lesions (pestivirus)
- Acute, multifocal erosive glossitis
- Acute, multifocal erosive esophagitis
- Acute, locally extensive erosive/vesicular glossitis
- Acute multifocal erosive enteritis with necrosis of peyer’s patches
- Chronic, necrotizing enteritis with necrosis of peyer’s patches
- Necrosis of crypt epithelial cells
- Fibrinoid necrosis, arteries of mesentery
- Severe thrombocytopenia and hemorrhage
- Chronic interdigital dermatitis
- Raised ulcerative lesions on nasal mucosa
- Fetal cerebellar hypoplasia
- Fetal growth plate lesions
- Arthrogyrposis
BVD DX
???
Papular Stomatitis lesions (Pox virus [parapoxvirus])
- Papular stomatitis-mouth, esophagus
Papular Stomatitis DX
???
Malignant Catarrhal Fever Unique lesions (ruminant rhadinovirus)
- Corneal opacities, or a blue eye
- Marked lymphadenomegaly
* BVD doesn’t have these I guess
Malignant Catarrhal Fever other lesions
- Erosive ulceration respiratory mucosa
- Fibrinoid necrosis in arteries
- Chronic lymphocytic interstitial nephritis
- Proliferation of splenic white pulp
- hemorrhagic cystitis
Malignant Catarrhal Fever DX
- PCR: EDTA blood (carriers ush below detection level)
2. Postmortem PCR - lung, kidney, GI, Brain
Foot and Mouth Disease lesions (Aphthovirus)
- Vesicles to ulcers-tongue
- Rumen pillars
- Ulcers tip
- Necrosis of epithelium
FMD DX
REPORTABLE
PCR-in Florida
Vesicular Stomatitis lesions (Vesiculovirus/Rhabdoviridae)
Lesions indistinguishable from FMD in cattle
Vesicular Stomatitis DX
Lab dx similar to FMD (accredited lab)
Bluetongue lesions (orbivirus)
Inapparent in cattle ush
- Erosive lesions muzzle, oral cavity, teats
- Laminitis
- Oral/upper GI lesions similar to BVD
Bluetongue DX
PCR on blood or lesions/spleen
Rinderpest (Morbillivirus)
Gross lesions like BVD
Intracytoplasmic inclusion and syncytial cells
Necrosis of peyers patches
