Dorsal Cavity
Contains Cranial and Vertebral cavities.
Cranial Cavity
Contains the brain.
Vertebral Cavity
Contains the spinal cord.
Ventral Cavity
Divided into the Thoracic and Abdominopelvic cavities.
Thoracic Cavity
Divided into the Superior Mediastinum, the pericardial cavity within the mediastinum, and two pleural cavities.
Pericardial Cavity
Contains the heart surrounded by the pericardial sac.
Pleural Cavities
Contain the lungs.
Superior Mediastinum
Contains the trachea, thymus, and esophagus.
Abdominal Cavity
Contains the digestive viscera (stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas)
Pelvic Cavity
Contains the internal reproductive organs, urinary bladder, and rectum.
Serous Membrane
A double layered membrane that covers organs and the walls of their cavities with fluid in between.
Pleura, Pericardium, Peritoneum
Serous membranes that cover the lungs/pleural cavity, heart/pericardial cavity, and abdominal viscera/abdominal cavity respectively.
