- Isolation or identification of the virus
- Positive serology test or identification of viral antigen or RNA specific to one or
more bluetongue serotype - A seroconverted sentinel animal: seropositive after showing negative serology

- Slaughter as much as necessary to prevent spreading
- Incinerate the carcasses (or burial)
- > 20km vaccination zone
Epi survey: duration of potential bluetongue presence, origin, vector
distribution, movement of animals to or from holding - > 100 km protection zone
Optional vaccination (but not paid by State)
Census of holdings and animals
