  • Clinical signs consistent with bluetongue
  • Isolation or identification of the virus
  • Positive serology test or identification of viral antigen or RNA specific to one or
    more bluetongue serotype
  • A seroconverted sentinel animal: seropositive after showing negative serology

  • Slaughter as much as necessary to prevent spreading
  • Incinerate the carcasses (or burial)
  • > 20km vaccination zone
    Epi survey: duration of potential bluetongue presence, origin, vector
    distribution, movement of animals to or from holding
  • > 100 km protection zone
    Optional vaccination (but not paid by State)
    Census of holdings and animals
    Movement restriction
    • 50km surveillance zone
      Prohibited vaccination
