blood, tissue fluid and lymph- transport in animals Flashcards
1
Q
blood
A
- consists of plasma
- carries dissolved hormones, mineral ions, amino acids, red blood cells etc
- plasma makes up 55% of blood (water rest)
2
Q
functions of blood
A
- transport of :O2,CO2 digested food from small intestine, nitrogenous waste products from cells to excretory organs, hormones, food molecules from storage compounds, platelets, antibodies
- maintain constant body temp and minimises pH changes
3
Q
tissue fluid
A
(watch video)
4
Q
lymph
A
- 10% of liquid that leaves blood vessels drains into a system of blind ended tubes called lymph
- similar structure to plasma and tissue fluid but contains fatty acids which have been absorbed into lymph via villi of small intestine walls
- one valves
- contains lymph nodes (lymphocytes build up there and produce antibodies)
- plays major role in defence mechanism of body
