CMS

A

centers for medicare and medicaid services- requires laboratories to be certified under clia

19
Q

CLIA

A

clinical laboratory improvements ammendment, regulates all laboratory testing done on humans in the US through CLIA (CMS takes care of this)

20
Q

AABB

A

voluntary agency for inspection and accreditation, meets requirements of CMS and CLIA, standards for blood banks and transfusion services

21
Q

FDA

A

regulates donor screening, Code of federal regulations CFR Title 21. CLIA regulations are found in Title 42 CFR 493, guidance documents memorandum to industry

22
Q

CAP

A

voluntary agency for inspection/adccreditation, meets requirement of CMS and CLIA

23
Q

MMR shot/VZV shot deferrel

A

4 weeks (because of Rubella) Measles and Mups (2 weeks)

24
Q

Flu shot deferral

A

no deferral

25
Q

HBIG

A

only given with exposure to hepatitis therefore 12 month deferral period

26
Q

Toxoids or synthetic/ killed vaccines

A

no deferral

27
Q

Polio oral vaccine

A

2 week deferral

28
Q

Yellow fever, Oral typhoid deferral

A

2 weeks

29
Q

unlicensed vaccines

A

12 months

30
Q

small pox

A

14-21 days, or until scab off

31
Q

polio or typhoid injection

A

no deferral because of inactivated organism

32
Q

Drugs- 2 day deferral

A

aspirin, aspirin contained products, Proxicam

33
Q

Proxicam

A

used to reduce swelling and pain in joints for arthiritis- 2 day deferral

34
Q

Drugs 7 days deferrral

A

Prasugrel (Effient), Ticagrelor (Brilinta)

35
Q

Prasugrel

A

(Effient) anti-platelet drug that prevents platelets from aggregating -7 day deferral

36
Q

Ticagrelor

A

(Brilinta) block platelets from sticking together- 7 day deferral

37
Q

14 day drug deferral

A

Plavix, (clopinagrel) , Ticlid, (Ticlopidine) Zontivity (Vorapaxar)

38
Q

Plavix

A

Plavix (clopidogrel) prevents platelets in your blood from sticking together to form an unwanted blood clot that could block an artery. Plavix is used to lower your risk of having a stroke, blood clot, or serious heart problem after you’ve had a heart attack, severe chest pain (angina), or circulation problem

39
Q

Ticlid

A

Ticlopidine (trade name Ticlid) is an antiplatelet drug in the thienopyridine family which is an adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor inhibitor. Research initially showed that it was useful for preventing strokes and coronary stent occlusions

40
Q

Zontivity

A

Vorapaxar is used to help prevent heart attacks and strokes in people who have had a heart attack or have poor blood flow (peripheral arterial disease). It works by blocking certain blood cells called platelets from sticking together and forming harmful blood clots

41
Q

Which units have higher viral rates, volunteer or directed

A

Directed

42
Q

Tegison

A

used for patients with psoriasis, has associations with birth defects, this is a permanent deferral

43
Q

Platelet count of a unit must be above what

A

3 x 10^11

44
Q

Betadine

A

sterlization technique for donor collection
