block 2 lecture 11 Flashcards
what is the pacemaker potential?
SAN
journey of the electrical stimulation of the heart?
SAN, atria, AVN, bundle of hiss, purkinje fibers, ventricles
what are the two cell types in the heart?
myocytes and myocardial
what are myocytes connected by?
intercalated discs
what rhythm does the SAN have?
autorhythmicity
what happens if the SAN cant work?
AVN takes over
where is the electrical conduction fastest in the heart?
purkinje fibers
what is the SAN innervated by?
parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system
sympathetic system of innervating the heart?
impulse sent down the accelerator nerve and noradrenaline is released
what does sympathetic innervation do to the heart?
increases rate and force of contraction
how does the parasympathetic innervation of the heart work?
vagus nerve releases acetylcholine
what slows the heart down?
beta blockers
how does adrenaline work in the heart?
adrenaline acts on beta 1 adrenoceptors by cAMP on the SAN to rate and force
what are beta 1 adrenoceptors blocked by?
Propanolol and Atenolol
