Q

radiation/energy balance

A

70% coming from sun is absorbed by atmosphere, rest is reflected back to space

Q

greenhouse effect

A

water vapour/co2/methane absorb radiation that is re radiated

Q

causes of differences in seasonality/climate

A

high latitudes have radiation distributed over larger area so less intense radiation, when radiation travels through tilt it passes through more of the atmosphere so absorbed more and less radiation, causes extremes (tropics/poles), poles have more variety

Q

why is northern hem warmer

A

more land in northern which heats up faster than ocean

Q

atmosphere circulation

A

radiation heats air which rises as less dense, as it moves it loses heat and becomes more dense and moves to ground, if air is over water it can pick up water and precipitate

Q

atmosphere cells

A

cause climate bands, rising air comes from equator and provides warm air
