Biology paper1- Organisation Flashcards
What is an enzyme and what does it do?
An enzyme is a protein molecule which speeds up the rate of chemical reactions within an oraganism
What is the role of acid?
Acid is found in the stomach and it kills bacteria and provides the optimal PH for protease
What does carbohydrase do?
Carbohydrase is an enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars
Where is amylase produced and what does it do?
Amylase is an enzyme produced in the salivary glands and in the pancreas it turns starch into glucose.
Where is protease produced and what does it do?
Protease is an enzyme and is produced in the pancreas and the small intestine, it turns protein into amino acids.
Where is lipase produced and what does it do?
Lipase is an enzyme and is produced in the pancreas and the small intestine it digests lipids into fatty acids and glycerol.
where are the atriums of the heart found and what do they do?
The atriums are the upper 2 sections of the heart and they collect blood from the veins.
Where are the ventricles found and what do they do?
the ventricles are the lower 2 sections of the heart and they pump out blood through the arteries.
What does the artery do?
An aryery is a type of blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart.
What does a vein do?
A vein is a type of blood vessel that carries blood into the heart
What are capillaries and what do they do?
Capillaries are a type of blood vessel that connect arteries and veins and are te site of exchange of substances between the cells and the blood.
What does the pulmonary artery do?
carries blood from the heart to the lungs
What does the pulmonary vein do?
carries blood from the lungs to the heart.
What does the aorta do?
The aorta carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body and is an artery.
What does the vena cava do?
The vena cava carries blood from the rest of the body to the heart.
