Biochemistry properties and changes Flashcards
Physical properties
Properties that you can measure or see through direct observations. Doesn’t involve changing a substance. THE PHYSICAL AND NOT CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUBSTANCE.
Physical properties examples:
Density, color, temperature, brittleness, malleability and solid liquid and gas
A physical change is…
A change that Can Be Reversible and doesn’t change the substance into a new substance. It just changes the appearance of the substance. APPEARANCE CHANGES BUT SUBSTANCE DOE NOT. CAN BE REVERSED
Chemical change is…
Turning a substance into a new substance. NOT EASILY REVERSIBLE
PHYSICAL CHANGE EXAMPLES:
Heating, boiling, cooling, dissolving, melting, freezing, and bending
Chemical changes examples:
Iron to rust, a substance changing into another substance, new substance, bubbling, and temperature change.
Chemical properties definition:
Properties that can only be observed and seen when one substance changes into another substance. The properties of matter that become evident after a chemical reaction
Chemical properties examples:
Toxic, flammable, acidity, reactivity
