Ch 1: distance and midpoint Flashcards
Derive
Creating a formula
You cannot determine
The length of lines that are sideways
Pythagorean thereom
a^2 and b^2 = legs
C^2 = hypotenuse
Formula: a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Hypotenuse
Longest side, lonely in Pythagorean thereom formula and opposite 90 angle
Distance formula
d^2 = (lx1 - x2l)^2 + (ly1 - y2l)^2
- square root is involved in formula
Steps;
1. Solve numbers first without ^2 involved
2. Add ^2 to answer
3. Add results together
4. Square root and have answer
Midpoint formula
M = ( x1 + x2/2, y1 + y2/2)
Steps:
1. Add top numbers together
2. Get answer and divide by two
3. Results are your answer
Bisect
Dividing something into 2 = parts
Endpoint
Other Endpoint and midpoint:
1. Plug endpoint with + x2 and y2
2. Make eq be equal to midpoint numbers
3. Solve by first multiplying on both sides
