What is the evolution of the governments role in Britains health
In the late 19th century the government had taken responsibilities for general public health and hygein focusing on living conditions due to industrial towns.. THen early in the 20th century the governmehnt began passing laws to keep individuals healthy like the liberal reforms.
Who is Beveridge
A lawyer who advised the liberal government on the 1911 insurance act and pension acts, and asked to make a report outlining ideas for Britains future.
What did The Beveridge Report in 1942 include
5 evils he claimed were holding Britain back.
- WANT (the issue of poverty and not having enough money for food or medecine
- DISEASE
- IGNORANCE (without proper education no one could get better jobs
- SQUALOR (living in slums or dirty unhygenic conditions
- IDLENESS (unemployment, meaning more crime or alcohol, or depressed)
What other reason made Beveridge make the 1942 repot
Other than the fact the government appointed him he believed the government had a responsibility to help and protect people.
What happened in 1945 at the end of world war 1 when a labour government was elected
They announced a welfare state government where the government would care for Britain from the cradle to the grave. It would be funded by the 1911 national insurance act

What factor led to the establishment of NHS
- Acceptance of more government interference in peoples lives
- Need to reorganize medical staff and hospitals after WWII
- Significant medical breakthroughs during the war meant more could be done for the people at lower costs.
- Children who were sent away to the country side during the war, made adults realize they wanted to create a new world with better conditions for them.
What services did NHS include
Medical diagnosis, treatment, access to GP , specialist consultant, emergency care, care for longterm illnesses, and dental as well as optermology care. Health visits on new babies, vaccination programmes
Who is Aneurin bevan
The person who set up the NHS, while NHS was technically a result of Beverdige’s report. He grew up poor in Wales and was the minister of Health in 1945 after the labour government was elected.
What opposition did Bevan face
He faced doctor oppositon as they beleived working for the government would reduce their wages and would lose money if they all worked at the same fee.
What was Bevan’s solution for the worries of the doctors
He agreed to pay them by the amount of patients they saw everyday, also that they could run their private practices as well as work for NHS, and he told the public about NHS to pressure doctors into joining,
How did NHS change children and female lives
Prior to this the 1911 National Insurance act didn’t protect children or females only working men.
Did life expectancy increase after NHS
yes due to massive improvements in surgery, prevention and treatment combined with the fact everyone recieved it male and female life expectancy increased by more than 7 years.
