Which beta blockers are considered safe in diabetes?
Beta1-selective beta-blockers (eg metoprolol)
Beta-blockers with alpha1-blocking activity (eg carvedilol)
–> preferred as safe & effective in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Which beta blocker in COPD/Well controlled asthma?
metoprolol–> because of their morbidity and mortality benefits in heart failure and ACS.

Side effects?
bradycardia
hypotension, orthostatic hypotension (especially carvedilol, labetalol)
transient worsening of heart failure (when treatment starts)
nausea, diarrhoea
bronchospasm, dyspnoea
cold extremities, exacerbation of Raynaud’s phenomenon
fatigue, dizziness
abnormal vision
alteration of glucose and lipid metabolism
