Basic Life Support Flashcards
the second part of Adult Chain of Survival
activation of emergency response system
what is the first step of the Adult Chain of Survival
recognition of cardiac arrest
the third step of Adult Chain of Survival
begin CPR
the fourth step to Adult Chain of Survival
rapid defibrillation
the fifth step of Adult Chain of Survival
effective advanced life support
the sixth step of Adult Chain of Survival
Intergrated post-cardiac arrest care
Child Care Chain
- prevention of arrest
- early high quality bystander CPR
- rapid activation of CPR
- effective advanced life support
- Intergrated post-cardiac arrest care
what does CAB stand for?
- Chest Compression
- Airway
- Breathing
take a maximum of ____ seconds to check for a pulse?
10
deliver air over __ seconds
1
compression rates for adults
100 bpm
30:2 for 5 cycles
compression rates for
1 year of age to puberty
15:2 for 10 cycles if there are 2 rescuers or
30:2 for 5 cycles if you’re solo
2 inches deep
1 hand for small child
location of pulse for infants
brachial
compression depth for infants
1.5 inches
when to activate EMS?
same as child, if you didn’t witness the arrest and you are solo, perform 2 minutes of CPR before leaving infant to activate EMS ot get an AED
if you witness the arrest of an Infant or Child when do you activate EMS?
leave child to call 911 or to get a Defibrillator
if an infant has a definate pulse but less than 60bpm,
add compressions
if infant has a pluse
give 1 breath every 3 seconds
baby compressions
solo-
2 man-
30: 2
15: 2
solo rescuer for infants you use what fingers for compression
middle and index
2 man rescuer what fingers do you use for CPR
thumbs
in a compression of 15:2 how often do you switch roles
every 2 minutes
in advanced airway what changes and stays the same?
compressions remain at 100/min without pause, but you give 1 breath every 6-8 seconds (8-10 breaaths) a minute
Mouth-to-Mouth breaths describe actions
head tilt-chin lift
pinch nose
take regular breaths while creating a seal with your mouth
give breath
check for chest rise
give 2 breaths, no more until the next cycle. even if it failed
if unable to ventilate, return to just compressions
what is rescue breathing
just breaths are given becuase the victim has a hearthbeat but cant breath
breaths for rescue breathing for adults
1 breath every 5 to 6 (10-12 breaths) a minute
rescue breathing for infants and children
1 breaths every 3 to 5 seconds (12-20) breaths a minute
every breath you give should be how long, in all situation?
1 second
if infants chocking what do you do
turn around and give 5 back slaps, then turn around on 5 compressions. repeat until object if removed
