What is the NMC responsible for?
NMC is responsible for regulating the standard of professional practice of all nurses and midwives in the UK wherever they are working
When does the responsibility of the NMC apply to all nurses and midwives in the UK?
this applies whether they are in paid employment or just a volunteer
Why does the NMC exist?
the NMC exists to protect the public and it sets high standards for:
- initial education and training of nurses and midwives
- continuing professional development
- standards of professional practice
- standards of personal conduct both at work and in leisure time

they can remove members from the register, meaning that they are no longer permitted to practice
