When may an advocate speak on a service user’s behalf?
-example?
if a client has a serious communication problem, an advocate may speak on their behalf
- eg a client may have a learning difficulty or speech impediment or lack of confidence when talking with health and social care professionals
Who are usually advocates in health and social care settings?
in health and social care settings, advocates are usually volunteers
Who do advocates work with?
they work with service users, getting to know them and build a relationship so that they can accurately represent the views, needs and preferences of their client to the official organisations when needed
When may advocates need to represent their client?
this may be through attending care meetings with the service user or completing forms, writing letters or emailing on a client’s behalf
