B3 Organisation and the Digestive system Flashcards
What happens during the development of a multicellular organism?
Cells differentiate.
What is a cell?
Cells are the basic building blocks of life.
What is a tissue?
Tissue are groups of cells working together to perform a shared function, and often with a similar structure.
Name the 4 types of animal tissue.
- Muscle tissue
- Nerve tissue
- Epithelial tissue
- Connective tissue
What does Muscular tissue do?
Muscular tissue contracts to bring about movement and support.
What does Nerve tissue do?
Nerve tissue gives signals to our muscles and informs us of environmental conditions.
What does Epithelial tissue do?
Epithelial tissue lines our organs (inside and outside)
This includes Glandular tissue.
What does Connective tissue do?
Connective tissue supports and protects other tissue.
What is an organelle?
A specialised unit within a cell which performs a specific function.
Give an example of an organelle
- Mitochondria
- Ribosomes
- Chloroplasts
etc
What is an Organ?
A structure made up of groups of different tissues, working together to perform specific functions.
What is an Organ system?
A group of organs with related functions, working together to perform certain functions within the body.
Name all the Organ systems:
- Epithelial system
- Respiratory system
- Skeletal system
- Muscular system
- Digestive system
- Cardiovascular system
- Nervous system.
