Specified Duties

- Example: AR 600-20 states NCO’s must ensure Soldiers are properly trained and maintain their personal appearance and cleanliness

Directed Duties
- Issued by superiors orally or in writing
- Not found in the Unit’s organizational charts
- Examples: Being in charge of quarters (CQ), serving as SGT of the guard, staff duty NCO, key control NCO, safety NCO, and crime prevention NCO

Implied Duties
- Often support specified duties but may not be related to MOS
- Often not written, but implied in instructions
- Improve the quality of the job and keep the Unit functioning at an optimal level
- Requires individual initiative
