What are prokaryotic cells
Cells that do not contain a nucleus
What is the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells?
Eukaryotic cells have a membrane bound nucleus that contains genetic information.
Why can’t you see prokaryotic cells with a light microscope?
The magnification is too small. ( Prokaryotic cells are 10x smaller than eukaryotic )
List all the structures that could be found in a bacterial cell
Plasmid, cell membrane, cell wall, flagella, slime capsule, cytoplasm, genetic material
What is a plasmid?
A small ring of DNA that carries useful genes.
Where is the DNA found in a bacterial cell?
Free in the cytoplasm or in a loop
Contrast plant cells and bacterial cells (5)
Plant cells have a cell wall made of cellulose, a permanent vacuole and chloroplasts while bacteria has a cell wall not made of cellulose as well as flagella to move and DNA in a loop and plasmids.
Compare animal cells and bacterial cells
Animals cells and bacterial cells bpth have cell membranes and ribosomes. They both have genetic material but the bacteria cells is in a loop of DNA free in the cytoplasm while the animal cells is in a nucleus. In the bacteria cell you find flagella to support movement and bacteria cells have cell walls made of cellulose while animal cells have no cell wall.
