  1. intrapersonal definition
    - What goes on within a leader? Requires self-knowledge
    - lead from conviction
    - be unique, original, genuine
    - actions based on own beliefs, values or moral standards
  2. development definition
    - nurtured skill within a leader
    - development over lifetime
    - creates relation between leader and follower
  3. interpersonal definition
    - focused on relationship between leader and follower
    - > create things together to create group cohesion, team spirit

—> authentic leadership can be triggered by major life events

  1. self-awareness
    - understanding of one’s own and impact on others
    - demonstrated understanding of strengths, weaknesses and how one makes sense of the world
  2. internalized moral perspective
    - using internal moral standards rather than outside pressure to guide behavior
    - actions consistent with expressed beliefs
  3. balanced processing
    - explore others peoples opinions
    - objectively analyze data before making a decision
  4. relational transparency
    - being open and honest in presenting one’s true self to others
    - openly sharing information and feelings as appropriate for situations
