1857 Tom wills one of the founders of Australian Football returned to Australia after going to Rugby school
The development of the game was influence of the game of rugby as played at the rugby school
Originally devised as a winter training game for cricketers
Some historians have suggested that Wills could also have been inspired by leaping/ ball games played by Aborigines- Marn Grook
Others say it is a mixture of rugby and Gaelic football
