A perception of the reason for an outcome of an event
What does attribution theory give an explanation of?
The cause for success or failure
Why are reasons for failure or success in sport vital?
To maintain motivation and effort

Effort
What is the stable and external attribution?
Task difficulty
What is the unstable and external attribution?
Luck
What is the locus of causality?
Describes where a performer places the reason for the win/loss
What are the 2 things locus of causality can be?
Internal or external
What is an internal locus of causality?
Winning or losing was within the performers control
What is an external locus of causality?
Winning or losing was out of the performers control and under the control of the environment
What is the stability dimension?
Describes how fixed the attributions are
What are the 2 things stability dimension can be?
Stable or unstable
What is an unstable stability dimension?
Very changeable, this change could be from week to week or even within minutes in the fixture
What is a stable stability dimension?
The reason is permanent
