Cannot tolerate interruption from an adult.

0-1 years.
Easily distracted.
Attention fleets from one object to another.
What is single channelled attention?
2-3 years.
Can switch attention to another activity upon firm adult instruction.
What is focusing attention?
3-4 years.
Gradually begins to control focus.
Can only focus on one thing at a time.
Need to stop an activity in order to listen.
What is two channelled attention?
4-5 years.
Can do a task and understand an instruction at the same time.
Concentration time is short.
Can cope in a busier environment.
What is integrated attention?
5-6 years.
Two channelled attention is well established.
Can cope with different environments and different people.
Can tune out distractions.
What is sustained attention?
5-6 years.
Ability to focus on specific stimuli in order to complete a planned task.
What is joint attention?
3 years.
Two people focus on an object or event, for the purpose of interacting with each other.
It requires the ability to gain, maintain, and shift attention.
