Q

Tank damage assessment criteria?

A

M mobility kill, incapable of movement, immobilised irreparable by crew.

F Fire power kill, main armament is put out of action, incapable of operating or associated equipment has been damaged (irreparable by crew)

K completely destroyed
A tank is destroyed if it is knocked out, immobilised, and damaged beyond repair.

Q

APC and MICV kill assessment criteria?

Armoured PERSONNEL carrier.

A

F -fire-power kill, main armament or associated equipment is damaged and is inoperable and unrepairable by crew. Or 75% of crew is killed including the gunner

P -payload kill, infantry (personnel) have suffered casualties and incapable of fighting effectively.

6
Q

Kinetic energy definition

A

In the form of a solid missile, which dissipated its energy on impact and requires no triggering device to control the energy release.

9
Q

Explain barrelling

A

Direct compression failure in shot material, shot bellies out at mid point.

Improved by putting hardness gradient along the shit.

10
Q

Explain shattering

A

Raising the hardness of a steel shot whilst increasing its compressing strength, makes the shot brittle.

11
Q

Explain Lateral bending

A

At high angles of attack the shot is subject to severe lateral stresses, both particularly towards its rear end.

17
Q

Explain BAE Behind armour effects?

A

Contribute, either directly or indirectly, to the lethality of a particular mode of attack.

Effects maybe physical disruptive effects (shape charge jet) or psychological effects against the crew. (Blast, shock, heat, light)

18
Q

4 BAE types

A

Luminescence
Spalling
Heat/Fires
Overpressure

19
Q

Fortifications and armour can be attacked by various methods of delivery list 5?

A

Guns
Grenades
Mines
Aircraft bombs
Missiles

20
Q

Residual energy is one factor that ammunition designers take into consideration in the defeat of amour. If a round of ammo is to achieve its kill, list the remaining 3?

A

Accuracy
Reliability
Lethality
