Atlantic crossing rules Flashcards
How can you leave your current track/route without prior clearance in NAT OTS?
Turn LEFT/RIGHT and establish a 5nm offset.
When turning to offset your track/route how many degrees do you need to turn minimum?
30deg.
What are some reason when it comes to deciding which way to turn? 4 items
Other traffic
Alternate
SLOP
terrain
What do you squak?
7700
Which frequencies can you communicate with surrounding traffic?
121.5(emrg) and 123.45 (pilot air to air)
How can you try to contact ATC?
CPDLC, HF, SATCOM, relay via other traffic in area.
When establish offset what should you do with altitude?
Establish vertical offset by 500ft. Ideally going below FL 290 will reduce chance of conflict with other traffic.
If you are above FL410 how much do you offset?
1000ft
What is the phraseology for asking for a WX offset?
“weather deviation required”
Are you required to inform ATC when no more WX deviation is required?
YES
Do you need ATC clearance?
You should always get a clearance at earliest time possible even if there is are legal ways to deviate from WX without clearance.
Do you also need to turn on ALL exterior lights for a WX deviation like you do for in flight contingencies?
YES. Allways when you leave track.
Do you need to change FL when deviating for WX?
YES if you deviate more than 5nm.
What altitude du you need to fly if you deviate more than 5nm for WX?
If you turn NORTH you descend 300ft.
If you turn SOUTH you climb 300ft.
What do you squawk with com failure?
7600
If you get communication failure prior to entry into NAT airspace are you still allowed to fly there?
Its STRONGLY recommended you do not enter NAT
Com failure in NAT. What do you do if you get com failure in NAT?
Follow cleared rute until last waypoint in oceanic clearance. After follow national rules.
What are the lost com procedures in FAA (usa) rules?
Assigned
Vectored
Expected
Filed.
What are the lost com procedures in EASA (europe) rules? IMC/IFR
IMC/IFR flight:
Radar NOT used by ATC, continue last clearance for 20min. There after continue via flight-plan.
Radar USED by ATC, continue last clearance for 7min, from: last clearance recived, squack 7600 or failure to report point. Then via flight plan
What are the lost com procedures in EASA (europe) rules? VMC
VMC: continue flight in VMC and land at nearest suitable airport.
EASA com failure. When should you start the descend/approach? OMA 12.5.10
Complete descend as late as possible and plan to start approach at: expected approach time if received OR expected arrival time.
EASA com failure. When should you land?
LESS than 30min after expected arrival time.
How is speed controlled in NAT tracks/random tracks?
MACH technic.
When do you need to keep a listening watch on HF?
If you dont have SELCAL.
