Section 265 (1) “Assault”
265 (1) A person commits an assault when
(a) without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly;
(b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose; or
(c) while openly wearing or carrying a weapon or an imitation thereof, he accosts or impedes another person or begs.
Common law States consensual fights are NOT a crime where:
Adults consent to apply force
Causing serious hurt or non-trivial bodily harm in the course of a fist fight
Also includes rough sporting activities as long as it is within customary norms and rules of the game

Application of force to complainant or another.
Threats or fear of application of force to complainant or another
Obtained by fraud ( false arrest)
How is reasonability linked into consent?
if one is in a consensual fight and applies an unreasonable amount of force, that fight is deemed a crime
Section 267: Assault with a weapon or cause bodily harm:
Every one who, in committing an assault,
(a) carries, uses or threatens to use a weapon or immitation thereof, or
(b) for the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person
Define weapon section 2 of the criminal code:
Anything used, designed to be used or intented for use:
(a) in causing death or injury to any person or
(b) For the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person
Define Bodily Harm Section 2 of the criminal code:
Any hurt or injury to a person that interferes with ther health or comfort and that is more than merely transient or trifling in nature.

Aggravated Assault Section 268 (1) Criminal Code:
Everyone commits an aggravated assault who wounds, maims, disfigures or endagers the life of the complainant.
Self Defence Section 34 of the criminal code:
34(1) A person is not guilty of an offence if
(a) they believe on reasonable grounds that force is being used against them or another person or that a threat of force is being made against them or another person
(b) the act that constitutes the offence is committed for the purpose of defending or protecting themselves or other persons from that use or threat of force; and
(c) the act committed is reasonable in the circumstances

Assault P.O. Section 270 Criminal Code:
Everyone commits an offence who:
(a) assaults a public officer or peace officer engaged in the execution of his duty or a person acting in aid of such an officer
(b) Assaults a person with intent to resist or prevent the lawful arrest or detention of another person
(c) Assault a person
(i) who engaged in the lawful execution of process against land or goods or making a lawful distress or seizure

- Accused must be aware person is a Peace Officer
