Medical recommendation for flight or special duty
who may issue a grounding notice?
Anyone in medical
Who will grounding notices be issued to?
- personnel admitted to sick list
- those who are hospitalized
- personnel determined to have a medical problem that would impair performance of duties involving flight.
- administration of immz that require grounding
Down chit copies go to:
- original goes to CO
- first copy to OPS O
- Second copy does to Training O
how long is a grounding chit in effect?
Until examined by a flight surgeon and issued clearance
Frequency of regular examinations
- Annually (due on last day of birth month)
- must be determined to be “physically qualified” and Aeronautically adapted”
Filing of physical examinations for aviation medicine
- All copies must be kept for 3 years.
- when “downed” for 60 days a new psychical must be completed
Mishap procedures
- Tend to victims
- Gather statements from survivors (all activities , sleep, food and drink consumption)
- collect labs
- inventory and properly label survival equipment and uniforms (noting any alterations made by rescue teams)
Labs collected after a mishap:
- 2 Gray tops
- 2 purple tops
- 3 red tops- 75 ml of urine
- do not use alcohol pads to clean collection site.

Nasal Decongestants effects on he body
- insomnia
- fatigue
- headache
- prolonged use raises BP and HR
- Dizziness, confusion, drowsiness
- Dry mouth, Euphoria
- Tachycardia; diplopia, decreased coordination
Aspirin effects on the body
- affects regulation of body temp
- greater heat loss due to increased blood flow to extremities
- effects acid-base balance
- changes respiration depth and rate
Petroleum jelly effects on the body
- will become crusty when exposed to %100 O2
Throat Lozenges affect on the body
- possible allergy
- Decreased airflow
- Rapid swelling
Cough drops effect on the body
- depresses CNS
- Decreased reaction time
