A
  • Henry was involved in the Breton crisis and needed to raise money.

Q

Cause

Why did the Yorkshirians resent the tax?

A
  • Henry was lancastrian and had replaced a Yorkshire monarch
  • Yorkshire had been hit badly by a poor harvest and many saw this tax as too far.
  • Other northern counties were exempt from taxes as they were expected to use their finances to defend the country from Scots.

Q

What was the significance of the Cornish Rebellion?

A

The rebels had managed to make it to outside of London without anybody challenging them - the rebellion hadn’t challenged Henry’s position on the throne but it did show the weakness of the whole political and social structure of England at that time.
