What system did Henry vii rule by?
The Fuedal system.
What was bastard fuedalism?
Also known as retaining, it was a reciprocal relationshio between magnate and retainers. E.g military service for payment of land and office.
What was the gentry?
The gentry were not a fixed Caste, they could posess a knighthood, a coat of arms etc or were simply landowners. Landed Gentry were those who had a country residence.
Lower Gentry lived more modestly like Yeomen.
What percentage of land was owned by peers and knights?
15-20%
How did the Gentry change under Henry vii?
The Gentry became more difficult to define as Henry widened their class. In practice, a gentleman was anyone who defined him as such.
The Gentry became more influential, they were justices of the peace, they led the council learned in law but they were not as rich and powerful as the magnates.

What was the role of Churchmen in Henry Vii’s England?
They tended to the spiritual needs of the people, whether that be the nobility or the ordinary folk. Some had political duties such as havinf a seat in the House of Lords.
