Why were good reations with Burgundy important?
The Bulk of England’s exports went through parts of the Netherlands which came under Burgundy’s juridstriction.
England’s main source of income/ industry was the cloth trade which mainly involved Antwerp.
Commercial interests meant good relations were important.
Why did Anglo-Burgundian relations deteriorate?
- Margaret Burgundy was a leading proponent of the Yorkist Cause
- The Burgundians gave refuge to Perkin Warbeck in 1493.
- Henry wrote a letter of irritation to Philip over Margaret’s support for Warbeck but Philip ignored it.

In October of 1493 there was an 80-man merchant riot as a response to the trade-embargo.
