What was the effect of Arthur’s death in 1502?
Within five weeks arrangements were made to marry Catherine to Prince Henry (Viii). A formal treaty was concluded in September of 1502 but it had to be approved by the Pope.
What was the effect of Elizabeth’s death in 1503?
This was very worrying for Henry as it threatened his dynasty. 2 out of 3 of his sons were dead, he considered a second marriage but failed to secure one.

Philip I of Castille died. Joanna goes mad with grief and Ferdinand becomes Regeant king of all spain. In the Netherlands, Margaret of Savoy acted as regent for her nephew although power truly lay with maximillian.

He feared that France would take lands in the Netherlands.

It was rejected by Ferdinand. Ferdinand was now in the advantageous position, in control of castille and allied with France. He didn’t send Catherine’s dowry to Henry either.

The league of Cambrai was initially an alliance between Burgundy, France and England against the Turks with Anti-Spanish motivations.
* However, Louis XII of France didn’t want to jeapordise his understanding with Ferdinand so he bribed the Spanish king and changed the alliance to be an alliance against Venice (Pope, Louis Xii, Burgundians).
