Arthrokinematics Flashcards
1
Q
What is an arthrokinematic movement?
A
- An ACCESSORY movement
- The motion occurring between joint surfaces
- Roll, slide, spin
2
Q
Convex-Concave Rule
A
ConVEX on ConCAVE - When a convex surface moves on a stable concave surface. ConVEX surface occurs in the opposite direction of the motion of the bony lever. Hip flexion - bony lever goes UP (roll) and the convex surfaces goes DOWN (slide).
ConCAVE on ConVEX - When a concave surface is moving on a stable convex surface, sliding occurs in the SAME direction as the bony lever (tibia on femur).

Q
Arthrogenic effects from an arthokinematic movement?
A
- Increase in ROM
- Stimulate joint and soft tissue receptors
- Capsular stretch
- Restore the accessory glide movement
