Approach to investigation of lymphadenopathy and diagnosing lymphoma. Flashcards
what are the sign and symptoms of lymphadenopathy?
lump weight loss night sweats itch (without rash) Alcohol induced pain Fatigue
what is immunohistochemistry used for?
Confirming is a lymphoma, and helping to subclassify.
what is cytogenetic analysis used for?
Specific patterns of chromosome abnormality in certain lymphomas.
G banding. Aspirate node, grow cells in culture and look at spread of chromosomes.
FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridisation). Look for specific abnormalities in chromosomes using probes that emit a specific light colour.
what is molecular analysis and what is its purpose
Patterns of gene expression.
Multiple analyses looking at patterns of genes that are switched both on an off.
Helping to further classify lymphoma and identify subtypes suitable for specific treatment.
what % of non hodgkins lymphoma are t cell/ b cell
90% B Cell
